The Flash Team Get Together Christmas 2018

Yet another fantastic get together for many of the Flash Presenters, we really don't do it enough.
A few faces that match the voices were unable to make it and we missed them very much, one day maybe all the presenters will merge like a FLASH from the storm.

It really is an opportunity for the team to have a real good chat about music, life and experiences they have at the station, many of the team don't see each other as their paths never cross although the flash broadcasts 24/7.
Its was lovely having new presenters faces in attendance and a couple of listeners too, listeners are always welcome to come along to the events and more than welcome as always to contact the station via email or Facebook
It really was a great turn out, one of the best we would say.
Thank you for Listening and the Team Wishes everyone a Fantastic Christmas
Here's looking forward to being on FM in the New Year

The Flash goes LIVE with a new website

The Flash would like to thank Paul Burton for his work on the new Website, something we have been wanting for a while now and gives us an opportunity to link in Our GO FUND ME for FM and the Blogsite too, I'm sure there more to come.
Plus we must say a big Thank you to Chris Fosbrook for Artwork and years of continued efforts with our previous site. Lets not forget Richard Setford's IT Skills and also the Main Man Martin Kirby who seems to spend his entire life 24/7 bringing things together. Well done All

PLEASE HELP US BY DONATING GO FUND ME

Please help The Flash radio station raise £4000.00 so we can launch an FM community radio service for the Waterlooville area!

The Waterlooville area is growing all the time and we strongly feel that it deserves to have its own station on FM. Ofcom have already awarded us with the FM licence, but as a small group we would really appreciate help so we can purchase the tools to do the job.

Every penny raised will go towards the purchase and installation of the transmission equipment required before we can launch on FM.

The Flash is a local not for profit radio station which has been serving the South Hampshire area as an internet station since 2012, and became available on DAB (Digital Radio)  to the Portsmouth area in August 2015. We are a dedicated team of volunteers who are focussed on promoting the talents of bands, musicians and singer/songwriters in the local area, and the importance of the local music scene in our communities. There are many independent volunteers and charities who achieve so much in our local area and The Flash will also continue to promote all that is positive within the area that we serve.

While the internet and DAB are great platforms with increasing listenership, many radio listeners still find FM the most accessible, and we have the experience and dedication to be able to make a difference on FM in the Waterlooville area.

PLEASE GIVE US A HELPING HAND BY GIVING A DONATION TODAY!.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please check out our website at  www.theflashonair.co.uk . You can hear us in the Portsmouth and Waterlooville area’s on DAB radio, and via Tunein.

PARK COMMUNITY SCHOOL MUNCH This Christmas Day

MUNCH  Click the Link for the Video
Stuart Holmes in the studio telling us all about Park community school MUNCH . Find out all about the Christmas Day lunch at the school by visiting their website.

As a school we were aware of the food poverty that some of our community experience and were concerned our students were going hungry. This was reinforced when our local community told us how the food bank was consistently running out of food. We set up a community group to tackle food poverty in our area and in April 2017 MUNCH was born.
We successfully contacted external agencies for funding and MUNCH is now in operation supplying nutritious 2 course meals and activities for children and their families attending any Leigh Park school during the school holidays. Play equipment is provided, along with learning practitioners, who help our guests learn via play encouraging learning of vital maths and English skills. Our school nurse is also on hand, on a drop in basis for any concerns parents may have.

Our vision for MUNCH is to develop a sustainable local social enterprise by establishing a community food shop and caf̩. This will provide volunteering and employment opportunities, as well as a casual meeting and eating venue to reduce social isolation Рwatch this space for more details.
We work in partnership with organisations who have excess food which otherwise would go into landfill . This helps to fill our MUNCH fridge in the Dickinson Centre. This is always fully stocked with emergency food for local families who are most in need.
We have expanded MUNCH to both Thursday nights and Sunday lunches. 2 course Sunday lunches start monthly from Sunday 25th March and Thursday nights meals start weekly from Thursday March 29th.

Listener in the Studio Ian Dunkley

THE JUKEBOX PARTY CONTINUES AS THE FLASH GOES OFF AIR!
Last night I had the pleasure of being joined by a long time Flash listener, after he e-mailed me about reception problems in Old Portsmouth. Ian Dunkley was probably surprised when I replied by inviting him to join me on air to share his 8 most favourite rock tracks. He had so much fun that he is now keen to join The Flash team as a presenter.
Unfortunately we were hit with technical problems just 10 minutes after the show started and went off air on both DAB and internet stream, however our intrepid engineer Richard Setford did manage to get us back on air for the final 25 minutes of the programme.
I am pleased to say that the studio party continued in spite of these problems, and the full show will be broadcast this coming Friday evening at 6.00pm. I sometimes forget to take studio photo's of my guests but simply could not let Ian leave before I snatched an image of his very impressive shirt. Thanks Ian and we look forward to hearing more from you in the future, and probably with music almost as loud as his shirt!.

INTRODUCING A NEW VOICE FOR THE FLASH & A WEBSITE WIZZARD!.
We can thank Jill Stembridge (who is a great ambassador to The Flash and always on a recruitment drive for new voices and local artists to plug) for putting this young gentleman in touch with us. His name is Paul Burton and his first show will be broadcast next Tuesday 13th November at 10.00pm, and be repeated on Sunday 18th November at midday.
He has a very good ear for Real Music and a Bob Harris style delivery. We must also thank him for donating his time and talents towards creating a brand new website for us, and one that will be more compatible with mobile devices. Welcome to The Flash team Paul!.

Martin Kirby's Sunday Night JukeBox Party EVERY SUNDAY 7-9PM

SUNDAY EVENING JUKEBOX PARTY!
After spending a pleasant hour or so at The Wickham Arms in Chichester yesterday evening with Tony Smith of Angel Radio reminiscing about the very early days of the then Angel FM, while being filmed by German TV, I thought I would post a photo of myself from those early days instead of the usual Jukebox image. Anyway back to present day and my show tonight will be more fast moving than normal and will be full of classic rock, mixed in with a healthy sprinkling of local talent. I would like to hear about and feature some of your favourite classic rock tracks too, so please leave them below or e-mail 'studio@theflashonair.co.uk'

THERE'S A big blue car in the studio. NO ROOM LEFT FOR MARTIN !

BIG BLUE CAR' ON THE FLASH!.
I would like to thank local musician and songwriter Kev Williams for joining me on my 'Sunday Evening Jukebox Party' programme on 30th September. Kev shared some favourite tracks that have influenced him over the years, and more importantly his own breathtaking recordings. Kev writes, sings, and plays all the instruments within his recordings under the banner 'Big Blue Car', and you will be hearing more from his music over the coming months.
It was apt to find out that his early musical life was spent practicing with a band at the Point 7 Club, which used to stand in Leigh Park and near to our studio.

Havant Young Carers Making us all aware

HAVANT YOUNG CARERS.
This afternoon it was a real pleasure to be joined by Vicky, Matthew and Lizzie from the local charity Havant Young Carers. The Flash are preparing features for a forthcoming on air Mental Health Awareness campaign that we are organising and they kindly joined me in the studio to make a recording about the support they offer.
The Flash would like to hear from any local group or charity in the PO postcode area who work to either help persons with mental health issues or promote good mental health through social events, a caring ear, or help with those worries and stresses that life can bring.
E-mail 'martin@theflashonair.co.uk' if you are interested in taking part in this on air campaign, which will be launched once we have enough recorded features and information in place.

Jonelle Faulkner Joins the Team

Jonelle already getting to Grips at the Desk
AN ASSET BEHIND THE SCENES!
Listeners who turn on to The Flash to enjoy the David Harris show on Monday afternoons may not realise that he is usually assisted by Chris Rogers, who operates the studio equipment so David can concentrate on providing his informative patter.
Chris is on holiday at present, so we say a big thank you to Jonelle Faulknerfor operating the desk live for David today.
Jonelle was a bit nervous at first but needn't have been as she did a fantastic job. Thank you Jonelle for your kind help today and for joining the team.
